It’s one of the most popular protein powders on the market, they even call the product ‘gold standard’. So is Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey the gold standard of protein powders? We thought we’d share our thoughts with 3 new flavors that we haven’t had before and give our thoughts on the product overall.

Brand

Optimum Nutrition is probably the biggest brand is the supplement industry and theres good reason why – Their products are always found in the top 10 of every category they are in. Their product branding is consistent and easy to understand and they have a product to meet what your after. They say they are legendary for both quality and innovation and product the world’s best selling whey. It seems they are spot on.

Packaging

We believe Optimum Nutrition has the best packing in the market – it’s sharp, it’s easy to read and has a professional appearance that doesn’t rely on athletes or gimmicks. Flavors are marked on the right of the product name with there being about 15 flavors or so. Each package is sealed well and the protein inside appears consistent and of high quality.

Mixability

After loading in a scoop or 2 and adding water/low fat milk, then shaking, we found the powder mixes very quickly with no clumps of powder to be found. We also found it mixed great with additional powders such as creatine – we used MuscleTech Creatine 100% Platinum — check out our review.

Taste

The bodybuilding.gold team tried 3 new flavors – Extreme Milk Chocolate, Mocha Cappuccino and Coffee. We found all flavors to taste great – Delicious and Smooth with no horrible after taste. We typically use 1 1/2 scoops with water or low fat milk. The taste was great and we always found ourselves looking forward to our next protein shake! Theres not many protein powders that do this.

Effectiveness

It’s hard to really gage the effectiveness of a protein powder, however, we feel that it has helped up meet our protein targets by taking 2-3 a day along with high-protein foods (chicken, beef etc). Gold Standard 100% Whey taste great so it’s not hard to drink that many per day no matter what the flavor is.

Coming into this review we were already big fans of Gold Standard 100% Whey, so we already knew we would be impressed with whatever flavors we tried. If you haven’t tried Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard 100% Whey we REALLY suggest you do – Start with the Extreme Milk Chocolate (the highest rated overall) and go from there.
