When we think of bodybuilding, we think of the Olympia. The Mr Olympia is the pinnacle of the bodybuilding world. It is the contest that every pro bodybuilder strives to win, and every amateur bodybuilder dreams of one day competing in. It is the show which crowns the best of the best, and only a select few pro bodybuilders can ever truly claim that they’ve been fortunate enough to win. One of those men is Jay Cutler, a bodybuilder with a huge fanbase who many consider to be one of the best ambassadors for the sport of bodybuilding. But how did Jay rise to the top of the mountain, how did he train, and what is he doing now? Here’s a better look.
Who is Jay Cutler?
Jay Cutler is a former pro bodybuilder, a 4 x Mr Olympia winner, an entrepreneur, and an all around great guy. Jay Cutler stands at 5ft 10 inches tall, and nowadays weighs in at around 240 – 245 pounds, which is still pretty jacked. Back when he was competing however, he was quite the monster, as he would compete at 260, and off-season, would bulk up to just shy of 300-pounds. He has won more titles during his illustrious career, than most bodybuilders could ever dream of. As well as winning the Olympia, four times, he has also won the Arnold Classic, various Gran Prix’s, NPC titles, and NPC teen titles when he was just starting out.
Bodybuilding
In 1993, Jay Cutler secured his first major win in the world of bodybuilding. He won countless other titles as the years went by, including the Arnold Classic. Because of his potential, he was even featured in various bodybuilding-themed videos such as the ‘Battle for the Olympia’ series, and ‘Jay Cutler: Ripped to Shreds’. In 1999, he entered his first Olympia contest and placed 14th. In 2000 he did considerably better and placed 8th. By 2001, he had packed a lot of size on and nailed his conditioning, and he came 2nd behind Ronnie Coleman. He continued to lose out to Ronnie until 2006, when he eventually captured the Mr Olympia title.
Mr Olympia
For years, since the 90s, the Olympia had been dominated by Ronnie Coleman. So much so in fact, that people began to lose interest as it was obvious Ronnie would win before he even stepped on stage. Then, along came Jay. Jay was virtually as big as Ronnie, and when his condition was on-point, he was certainly a rival for Ronnie. Now, the two engaged in a friendly rivalry on stage. Jay came up short each year, narrowly missing out, right until 2006 when he eventually beat Ronnie. In 2008, Jay lost the title to Dexter Jackson, and people thought he was done.
The comeback
After losing to Dexter, people wrote Jay off and claimed his body was past its prime. Jay however, went back to the drawing board, started working with Hany Rambod, and came back in 2009 with one of the best physiques to ever grace the Olympia stage. Jay, new haircut and all, looked awesome and reclaimed his title. To this day, he is the only bodybuilder to ever lose the Olympia title and win it back again. His epic ‘Quad Stomp’ signature pose on the stage of the 2009 Olympia is one of the most iconic bodybuilding images ever.
Life after bodybuilding
Now, Jay Cutler is retired from bodybuilding but has released his own supplement and fitness clothing line. He continues to train hard and is still big, jacked, and lean. As yet, he has expressed no desire to step back on stage.
